About the challenge: 

Welcome to the 2024 Halloween Hackathon hosted by Girls Who Code at Atkins High School! We invite any high school members with a passion for coding and technology to join us this year and compete for candy!

Get started

We recommended using Code.org or Replit if you're a beginner, but Microsoft Visual Studio Code is also a really good option for those who have a more experienced level in coding.

Requirements

What to Build:

In this challenge, create a website using any coding language and IDE/platform that explains the history of Halloween and why we celebrate it today! Bonus: include where the notion of costumes came from, and if you're dressing up, what you will be this year!

What to Submit

  • The link to the working website 
  • Optional: a demo video explaining your website in-depth + a run-through, this will not affect judging criteria but will make the submission more engaging + will get an honorable mention

    How creative or aesthetic the website is
  • Functionality
    how well the website works, if there are any bugs or errors, how compatible it is

    how well the website looks, the fonts and images used, etc.
